• Welcome to the blog of Luxe Fête. We are a full service international event planning and design studio based in Miami, Florida. Global clients seek our services to plan, design, and produce their events. We have executed events around the world, with much of our work featured in national publications. Before channeling my creative energy into this field, I was an attorney at top law firms and clerked for a Federal Judge. It did not take long to realize I’d rather be telling stories by transforming spaces and creating beautiful atmospheres. Stay awhile - we would love to hear from you! Deirdre - You go, Nat!

Meet Yaniv Cohen of Shiraz Events

Excellent food really makes people happy – exactly what you’d want for your wedding guests. So as a follow up to our recent post on the excellent food created for our Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot, I thought it would be nice to sit with Yaniv Cohen of Shiraz Events to get some insight into the world of catering and weddings.

Why is food presentation so important for weddings?

We eat with our eyes first…a dish might taste great but unless it looks great you don’t really want to try it. Everything about a wedding should be visually pleasing, food drinks décor and even staff.

What inspired you when creating the menu for the Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot?

Inspiration comes from the story itself, the color you imagine when you think about Alice in Wonderland, the mad hatter and the fabulous tea party.

What are some of the trends you are seeing in weddings?

Weddings are becoming less formal and a more casual and fun affair for family and friends. We see a lot more family style dinners using royal tables and a lot more cocktail party themed weddings with hearty hors d’oeuvres. We are also seeing quite a few organic weddings, set in farms with a selection of organic menus.

Explain the New York and Miami connection with Shiraz Events?

As a New York City Caterer in Miami, we bring the NYC style, edge and quality of service to Miami – it’s is appreciated by many in South Florida. The synergy between the two cities is undeniable. Only 2 1/2 hours away, Miami is the playground for many New Yorkers. Its the tropical winter wonderland. Love it here.

Any advice for brides who are looking to hire a caterer for their wedding?

It is easy to spot the caterer who is truly creative and loves what they do. Find a caterer that listens to your vision, one that listens to what you bring to the table, one that is truly dedicated to the art of celebration.

Gabe - I love this new dimension to your blog! Keep up the great work Nat

Wonderland. The Food

I started doing 80s dance moves when Yaniv Cohen of Shiraz Events shared with me the menu they created for our Luxe Fête Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot. I mean, how could you sit still, it’s the perfect menu for a whimsical high tea garden party:

  • Shrimp Fantasy
  • Twisted Puffs
  • Ruby Red Truffle Deviled Eggs
  • Green Sesame Chicken Tea Sandwich Tower
  • Pear and Gorgonzola Sailing Boats
  • Tortellini Skewers Tea Cups
  • Turmeric Roquefort Grape Medley
  • Patty Pan Squash with Carrot Mousse
  • Chili and Curry Dusted Chocolate Truffle Pops
  • Tropical Macaroons Dipped in Dark Chocolate on a Stick
  • Smoking Caterpillar Martinis

Needless to say, I was very happy with the finished produced. The food not only looked beautiful, but it was divine. I almost got in trouble with my crew for eating so much of it before the photo shoot. I particularly loved the macaroons (guess I am partial in that it is my favorite dessert i.e. in my dream wonderland macaroons exist like water). Hands down their macaroons are the best I have tasted in South Florida – just a wonderful texture and flavor created by their awesome French Pastry chef. Yum. These guys were really fantastic to work with, so I have asked them to come back and talk to us about the catering world and weddings. They are experts. Good stuff, so check back soon.

Wonderland: The Wedding Cake

This Alice in Wonderland inspired cake is spectacular. And yes – It is EDIBLE, a real hand-made delicious wedding cake. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it, just a perfect interpretation of what we wanted to achieve with our inspiration board: (1) The layers of the cake take their shape (or misshape) from the mad hatter’s hat, (2) The silky cloth-like draping of sugar and powder blue sky pay homage to the iconic Tim Walker image called “Wonderland”, (3) The delicately hand-painted winding pathway incorporates the natural lush setting, (4) The hand-made purple orchid sugar flowers growing from the base are so refined and exotic, (5) The whimsical hand-painted teapot and overgrown flowers add such whimsy and finesse to the creation. To top it off, Dominique and her team used crushed pearl dust to give it a sophisticated glimmer and finish. What a beautiful work of art. It’s no surprise she’s been featured on the Food Network, Grace Ormonde and other fine wedding publications. Simply divine. What does your dream wedding cake look like?

Wonderland: The Inspiration Board

My original plan was to next share the BEAUTIFUL cake that Dominique Beckers created for our Luxe Fête Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot. But then I realized that the beauty and artistry behind her work could not be fully appreciated without first sharing the inspiration board I sent her when we first started working on this project. It’s just amazing how she translated these pictures into the sensational cake:
