Meet Madeleine Kirsh of C. Madeleine’s Vintage Boutique

I recently sat down with the fabulous Madeleine Kirsh of C. Madeleine’s Vintage Boutique to get the scoop on what is hot in the bridal fashion world today. Her showroom is where we found our Punk. Rock. Love. Wedding Dress. C. Madeleine’s is a 10,000 square foot treasure trove of rare designer pieces, authentic couture and clothes with just plain ole’ style. It’s literally named one of the best vintage stores in the world. And if you only saw her collection of wedding dresses – simply amazing. Celebrities, designers and stylists alike frequent this store to stock up and get inspired (Naomi Campbell, Michael Kors and B. Akerlund just to name a few). And guess where a lot of the upcoming Sex in the City II vintage clothes hail from? Yup. C. Madeliene’s. Her infamous flair for style has made this connoisseur a frequent contributer to the series and both movies. So next time you are in Miami my dear fashionista brides and friends, a stop at this boutique is a must. Her styling staff is so knowledgeable and friendly, it’s really hard not to find the perfect piece. Here is Madeleine:

Nathalie: So excited to chat with you! Can you please share with us the latest trends in wedding gowns?

Madeleine: A lot of girls are going back to the early 1920s and 1930s wedding gowns, even the 1950s. In fact, I am having a hard time keeping the low-waisted flapper dresses and bias cut dresses in stock. Most of our clientele is not really looking for a traditional wedding dress. They are women who want something different, who are individualists and love fashion. We also see a nice amount girls looking for 1970s gowns – sort of a beach, barefoot bohemian bride. That is definitely popular too.

Nathalie: Many of the dresses and gowns in your store have been worn on the red carpet or featured in prominent magazines. What tips can you give the mothers-of-the bride or groom when it comes to shopping for a formal gown?

Madeleine: Believe it or not, you can wear black. Many of our mothers-of-the bride and groom are looking fabulous in black.

Nathalie: What is the most memorable wedding you styled?

Madeleine: There are two that stand out. One in Miami and the other in Palm Beach. I once styled a bride and her bridal party in different color gowns from the 1950s. They looked stunning. In another wedding, we styled the bride and each bridesmaid in a gown from each of the important fashion decades, unifying the look with one color. That was amazing – – essentially a history of fashion at the wedding.

Nathalie: Can you tell us a little about yourself? What do you do when you are not collecting for your vintage showroom?

Madeleine: When I am not collecting for my vintage showroom, I am thinking about collecting. I am fully committed and passionate about what I do.

Nathalie: Thank you so much. I feel like I am in a candy store when I am here!

Madeleine: Enjoy (said with her signature smile).

P.S. I would be remiss not to reflect on the recent tragic passing of fashion genius Alexander McQueen.  Just terribly sad. Wishing his family and loved ones peace and strength during this difficult time. In a past interview Madeleine described McQueen as “an example of romanticism on the runway. He creates amazing flowing romantic pieces, very reminiscent of the Victorian periods, all, which are very feminine.  Men like him know the way a woman looks beautiful,” she said. Rest in Peace Lee Alexander McQueen. Gone too soon.

Punk. Rock. Love. The Groom

Grooms don’t always get that much love when it comes to their wedding day styling. Not fair. We wanted “Jake” to look super handsome, quirky-cool, yet modern. When we first laid eyes on the short-sleeved black and white polka dot tuxedo jacket at C. Madeleine’s Vintage Boutique, we knew we found the perfect look for him. Paired with a black bow tie, black skinny jeans and stylish patent leather tuxedo shoes, Jake rocked!

P.S.  Thanks for all your help Rebecca!

Punk. Rock. Love. The Wedding Dress

When looking for “Leila’s” dress we knew we wanted something punky. Nothing less would do for a bride who is sweet, bold and yearns to make a deliberate fashion statement. Did we find our punky dress? Nope. We found something better: C. Madeleine’s Vintage Boutique in North Miami Beach, Florida. This store is no doubt “one of the fashion wonders of the world.” One of the first things we spotted in this treasure trove was an AMAZING vintage Dolce & Gabanna ballet-inspired two piece.  The white lace corset, topped with a large ethereal flower, is a perfect compliment to the airy tea-length tulle skirt. We couldn’t think of a better way to edge it up than to add black accents a la the Madonna to Sean Penn wedding dress. A black fascinator, black fingerless gloves, black sash and black patent leather Louboutins, brought our punky look to life. We can totally see Leila telling Jake, “Dance Me to the End of Love” while rockin’ this wedding dress.

P.S. Be sure to check back later this week when we chat with Madeleine Kirsh, of C. Madeleine’s Vintage Boutique. She. is. so. cool. Vogue called her store “Miami’s best kept secret,” but clearly all the designers and celebrities know the deal. I just missed Michael Kors by fifteen minutes on my last visit! Dang!
